1. Introduction

Dikuta (“we”, “our”, or “us”) values your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our WhatsApp-based remittance service, our website at dikuta.com, and related platforms.

2. Information We Collect

We may collect the following personal information:

  • First name and last name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Address (city, state/province, ZIP/postal code)
  • Identity verification information where we are legally required to collect it
  • Recipient details required to process remittances
  • Transaction and payment-related information
  • Message metadata (timestamps, message type) from WhatsApp interactions
  • If you join our waitlist: your name, phone number, email address, and — where you provide it — the phone number of the person who referred you

We do not collect GPS location data, contact lists, camera data, or other device-level permissions.

3. Cookies and Local Storage

We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or third-party tracking on dikuta.com. We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.

The website stores a small amount of data in your browser, and loads content from third parties, as follows:

  • Video playback preferences. If you play our demo video, the video player saves your volume and mute settings in your browser's local storage so they persist the next time you watch. This data stays in your browser and is never sent to us.
  • YouTube. Our demo video is hosted on YouTube and only loads when you choose to play it. At that point YouTube may set its own cookies and receive your IP address, governed byGoogle's privacy policy.

Because we set no advertising or analytics cookies, we do not display a cookie consent banner. You can clear the stored playback preferences at any time by clearing your browser's site data.

Do Not Track. We do not track visitors across third-party websites, so we do not respond differently to Do Not Track signals. We do honour recognised universal opt-out mechanisms, such as Global Privacy Control, where applicable law requires it.

4. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used to:

  • Process and manage money transfer transactions
  • Communicate with you via WhatsApp during transaction flows
  • Send transaction confirmations, receipts, and service-related notifications
  • Comply with legal and regulatory obligations (e.g. AML, KYC, sanctions screening)
  • Improve service quality, reliability, and security
  • Provide customer support
  • Contact you once, at launch, if you have joined our waitlist
  • Send you WhatsApp updates before launch, where you have specifically opted in to that

5. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal data based on one or more of the following legal grounds:

  • Your consent — for WhatsApp messages before launch, which you may withdraw at any time
  • The performance of a contract (processing your remittance)
  • Compliance with legal obligations, including anti-money-laundering and sanctions law
  • Our legitimate business interests, such as preventing fraud, securing our platform, and emailing you at launch because that is what you asked us for when you joined the waitlist

6. Third-Party Services

We work with trusted third-party service providers to operate our platform, including:

  • Payment processing: Stripe
  • Mobile money payouts: IntaSend
  • Messaging: WhatsApp Business Platform (Meta)

These partners only access personal data necessary to perform their services and are contractually obligated to protect your information. If we add or change a provider, we will update this list.

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures such as encryption, access controls, and rate limiting to protect your data. While we strive to secure your information, no system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.

8. Data Retention

We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy. In practice this means:

  • Transaction and identity verification records: five years from the date of the transaction or the end of our relationship with you, as required by anti-money-laundering law.
  • Waitlist details: until you ask us to remove them, or until 24 months after launch if you never become a customer.
  • Support correspondence: up to 24 months after the matter is closed.

Where we are legally required to keep a record, we will retain it even if you ask us to delete it, and we will tell you when that applies.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA), the Colorado Privacy Act, or other data protection laws, including the right to:

  • Access your personal data, and know what we collect and why
  • Correct or update inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict processing
  • Receive a copy of your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights

To exercise these rights, contact us at info@dikuta.com. We will respond within the time limit set by the law that applies to you. You may use an authorised agent to make a request on your behalf.

If you are in the EEA or the UK and believe we have handled your data unlawfully, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority. We would appreciate the chance to address your concern first.

10. Data Sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal data. We only share information with service providers and partners as required to operate our services and comply with legal obligations, including with regulators, law enforcement, and financial crime authorities where we are required to do so.

11. Age Requirement

Dikuta is a financial service and is not available to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected data from a person under 18, we will delete it promptly and close any associated account.

12. International Data Transfers

As a US-based company serving users internationally, your data may be processed in countries outside your country of residence, including the United States. Where we transfer personal data out of the EEA or the UK, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK Addendum where applicable) together with additional safeguards appropriate to the transfer. You can request a copy of the safeguards we use by emailing info@dikuta.com.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Where a change materially affects how we use your data, we will tell you directly before it takes effect.
